Frequently asked questions
where do you pick up from?
The normal pickup & drop-off locations are within a 10km radius of Wolfville (Grand Pre, Greenwich, Gaspereau, Avonport, Port Williams). Should you require a pickup beyond this or from HRM/Halifax, it would, most likely, require a full-day booking.
I've never been on a Where It’s At tour before. How does it work?
Chances are, we’ll have communicated a few times before your departure as we determine your ideal itinerary. With 11 wineries, 5 breweries, and so many other things to do within a 20 minute radius of Wolfville, there are countless tour options. Once the details are decided on (date, time, locations, duration, etc.), a deposit will be required (see below for deposit details).
On the tour day, we’ll pick you up at the agreed upon time and location and take you into the #WineapolisValley!
Half-day tours stop at 3 locations for about an hour each where you’ll either receive a beverage tasting or museum entrance. Depending on the location, the tastings might be guided and could include a small tour of their establishment. Please note, only Planters Ridge takes people into their production area. Depending on the itinerary, you might be able to order another glass/tasting at your own expense before we’d need to depart.
Any purchases you make during the day can be stored in the van. At the end of the tour, we’ll take you back to where you were picked up or to a custom location at the agreed upon time.
What should I bring on the tour?
Please bring your ID (in case the locations ask for it), a sweater (in case it gets cold), and your taste for adventure! We’ll lock the van doors at every location, so you can leave whatever you’d like in the van.
Do you only visit wineries?
No. Although most people choose to visit our 11 surrounding wineries, this is a Taste Your Own Adventure! You tell us where you’d like to go, and we’ll make it happen. We have breweries, cideries, distilleries, restaurants, museums, country drives, beaches, lookoffs, historic attractions, farms, and more. If you’re not sure where to go, just talk to us. We have lots of ideas, here’s a list.
How long is the Van tour?
Half-Day Taste Your Own Adventure Tours are just shy of 4 hours long. From May till October they generally run from 9:45am-1:30pm, or 2:30-6:15pm. Half-Day Tours from November - April can start whenever is best for you. Full-Day Tours are around 7.5 hours long, normally starting around 10am. Epic Tours are around 10 hours and would extend slightly into the evening.
What is included with the tour?
Tours include: door-to-door service, guided transportation from a local guide, beverage tastings or museum admissions* at the first 3 locations, custom itineraries, chilled bottled water, access to a small cooler, and digital photos of your adventure.
*additional museum fees may apply
Do I have to try all of the samples?
We encourage you to try everything as this is the best way to learn more about our products, but no, you do not have to try nor finish all of your offerings. It’s not rude to pour out or not finish your samples, in fact wineries actually provide dump buckets for your convenience. Taste is subjectional and everyone’s palate is different.
Do you stop for lunch?
It depends. If one of your location stops has a restaurant (Lucketts, Lightfoot & Wolfville, Grand Pre, etc.) then there would be time to order during a Half-Day Tour. As each tour is customized, there’s quite a bit of back-and-forth communication between us to figure out these finer details. Please note, any food costs are NOT included.
What should I wear on the tour?
Wear whatever you like. Feel free to dress up or keep it casual. One of the best things about our Nova Scotia wineries is the lack of pretentiousness. We recommend wearing flat shoes as heels are not ideal for walking on gravel driveways or in vineyards! Also, try to avoid wearing perfume or cologne as this can overpower the wine.
How much wine will we drink?
If we keep it to just the provided wine tasting samples, then it could be around 20 ounces in ~4 hours. Generally speaking, there would be enough time for you to order an additional glass at your own expense at each location. Our tour is meant to be fun and educational; it’s not a booze cruise!
There’s a chance you might get a little tipsy, but you are expected to remain respectful to other guests, your guide, and the winery staff. Wineries have the right to not accept any drunk or disorderly guests and we do not offer refunds if this should happen. We also reserve the right to remove unruly guests from the tour.
Can I drink wine in the tour van?
No. NS laws dictate that open alcohol is not allowed in vehicles or in public places. You can store any purchases in the back of the van during the tour. If you are found to be drinking alcohol in our tour vehicle, we reserve the right to remove you from the tour.
Will I be able to drive after the tour?
If you need to travel after the tour, we recommend arranging alternative transportation as you will have consumed enough alcohol to affect your abilities. If you’ve been consuming alcohol, you should not drive directly after our tours.
Can you accommodate less than 2, or more than 6 Guests?
Perhaps. Solo travelers are possible so long as they purchase 2 tickets (less 10%). Groups of 7 to 18 guests are potentially possible by working with other local tour companies, depending on availability. Groups over 6 would (most likely) be split into two vehicles.
How do deposits work and What form of payment do you accept?
Once your itinerary is agreed upon between us, and locked in with the locations, I will email you an invoice. At that point, half of your total tour cost is required via etransfer, cash, cheque, or Paypal*. The balance can then be squared up through the same methods at the start of your tour. If deposits are not received within 48 hours of your sent invoice, your tour date may be offered to another customer. Gratuities aren’t expected, but they are accepted and appreciated. If paying through Paypal, an extra 3.5% will be added.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you cancel your reservation up to 168 hours (7 days) in advance, half of the deposit will be returned via etransfer. Deposits are non-refundable after that.
What happens if I'm not ready on time for my pick-up?
Please try to give yourself enough time to be ready to go for your tour! If you are not going to be ready at your designated pick-up time, please call or text 902-692-8546. Lateness may affect the tour itinerary, and may result in the removal of a location. No refunds will be given for changes to the tour itinerary due to guests being late for the pick-up. If needed, CJ’s Taxi Service is a great resource in the valley and are available by contacting 902-670-6700.
What Did you do in response to COVID-19?
For a time, every location we visited required your proof of vaccination. If you’d like, masks can still be worn in the van, inside any location, or when walking across patio decks. All tours are private and hand sanitizer is still provided. For our complete response, please visit our Coivd-19 protocol.
